INTERVIEW WITH DR. DANIELA MADAMA – MY PNEUMOLOGY

As part of World Lung Cancer Day, the Minha Pneumologia website also published an interview with Dr. Daniela Madama, focusing on the incidence of the disease and advances in diagnosis, treatment, and research.

According to the pulmonologist, lung cancer “has been growing in incidence, and data show an increase in the number of cases and diagnoses in women, due to a change in smoking habits over the years.” She adds that “the vast majority, around 80% of patients, are still diagnosed in advanced stages.”

The specialist, who is also a member of the Scientific Committee of the Lung Cancer Study Group (GECP), also highlights the advances made in the treatment of the disease. “We have seen significant progress in the therapeutic options available to our patients,” and, furthermore, “patients are now able to receive treatments targeted to their tumor type, with fewer side effects and a good quality of life,” she explains.

The interview also addresses the current status of clinical trials, the importance of screening, and the GECP’s fundamental role in raising awareness about the disease through various initiatives developed over the years.
