Lung Cancer Study Group

INTERVIEW WITH DR. TERESA ALMODOVAR – ANTENA 1 AZORES

Antena 1 Açores spoke with Dr. Teresa Almodovar, a member of the Scientific Committee of the Lung Cancer Study Group (GECP), about the current challenges of lung cancer, with a special focus on the increase in cases among people who have never smoked. “Recently, we have observed cases of lung cancer in younger people, between 40 and 50 years old, something that was unusual before,” says the specialist. “It is believed that this reality may be associated with new forms of air pollution, which today present different characteristics than in the past,” she explains. The pulmonologist also warns about symptoms that should not be ignored, namely, “a cough that does not go away, shortness of breath, changes in the type of cough and phlegm, chest pain that radiates to the arm or neck, unexplained fatigue, and prolonged headaches.”
