The “Roundtable 3: Malignant Mesothelioma” was moderated by several experts, including Dr. Fernando Martelo, a specialist in Thoracic Surgery, who discussed the challenges in treating this disease. The expert highlighted the complexity of malignant mesothelioma, since it does not depend on just one specialty for treatment. “It is a rare and very aggressive disease, with high mortality, and treatment requires a multidisciplinary approach.”
Regarding the challenges, the surgeon stressed the importance of choosing an appropriate therapeutic approach. “We have to opt for an aggressive therapeutic approach, but one that does not exceed the limits that the patient can tolerate,” he explained.
He also spoke about the significant advances in the fight against the disease, stating that “there are already promising results with new therapies.”
