Dr. Daniela Madama, a member of the Scientific Committee of the Lung Cancer Study Group (GECP), appeared on RTP’s “Bom Dia Portugal” program to mark World Lung Cancer Day.
During the interview, the pulmonologist highlighted the high mortality associated with this disease, emphasizing that it is a silent pathology. “The symptoms are very nonspecific and easily confused with other diseases, which means that in most cases, the diagnosis occurs at an advanced stage,” she explained.
The importance of screenings was also addressed, with the specialist explaining how they will be performed and under what conditions. “Screening is done through chest CT scans with a lower radiation dose than conventional CT scans,” she stated.
The topic of smoking was also highlighted, with Dr. Daniela Madama warning about the dangers of tobacco consumption, both conventional and new forms.
