Specificities of Nuclear Medicine

The Nuclear Medicine Specifics Conference was the last session of the Spring Meeting.

Dr. Gracinda Costa, from ULS in Coimbra, spoke about how Nuclear Medicine is being applied in the treatment and diagnosis of lung cancer. “At the moment we have two major diagnostic tools, which are two imaging tests , which allow us to provide the biological characteristics of the tumor that are useful for later choosing the best treatment”, explains the specialist. With regard to treatment, currently “we have a systemic therapy that can be very interesting at a very advanced stage of the disease, where there are already multiple metastases, and which allows the patient’s survival to be prolonged”, she adds.
