The Director of the Pneumology Service at the IPO in Lisbon begins by mentioning that “we still do not have screening for lung cancer, one of the five most common cancers in Portugal and the one that currently kills the most”. He adds that “it is usually diagnosed at a very advanced stage and that is why screening would aim to reduce the number of deaths from lung cancer, as it would allow early diagnosis of the disease”.
As part of World Cancer Day, which took place last Sunday, Dr. Teresa Almodovar, member of the Lung Cancer Study Group (GECP), was live on TVI’s Esta Manhã program to comment on the importance of lung cancer screenings.
