RIGHTS

CHOICE

The user has the right to choose the services and health care providers, within the existing resources and organizational rules of health services.

CONSENT OR REFUSAL

Free and informed consent or refusal of provision of health care should be declared. The user may, at any time during the provision of health care, revoke consent

PROVISION OF ADEQUATE HEALTHCARE

The user has the right to receive, promptly or within a period of time considered clinically acceptable, the health care he needs. The user has the right to provide the most appropriate and technically correct health care.

Health care must be provided humanely and with respect for the user.
In face-to-face assistance without prior appointment, and in a clinical picture of identical severity and complexity, priority should be given to users with disabilities equal to or greater than 60%

PERSONAL DATA AND PROTECTION OF PRIVATE LIFE

The user has the right to the protection of personal data and the protection of privacy.
The treatment of health data must comply with the provisions of the law, and must be adequate, relevant and not excessive.
The user has the right of access to the personal data collected and may demand rectification of inaccurate information and the inclusion of information that is totally or partially omitted.

CONFIDENTIALITY OF PERSONAL DATA

The user has the right to confidentiality concerning his personal data.
Health professionals have a duty of secrecy in relation to the facts of which they become aware in the exercise of their functions, unless the law provides otherwise or a court order requires their disclosure.

INFORMATION

The user has the right to be informed by the health care provider about his situation, the possible treatment alternatives and the likely evolution of his condition. The information must be transmitted in an accessible, objective, complete and intelligible way.

SPIRITUAL AND RELIGIOUS ASSISTANCE

The user has the right to religious assistance, regardless of the religion he professes. The churches or religious communities, legally recognized, are ensured conditions that allow the free exercise of spiritual and religious care to hospitalized clients in Portuguese National Health Service facilities on request, in accordance with Law.

COMPLAIN AND SUBMIT A COMPLAINT

The user has the right to register complaints in health establishments and to receive compensation for damages suffered.

ASSOCIATION

The user has the right to nominate entities that represent him and that defend his interests, namely in the form of associations for the promotion and defense of health or groups of friends of health establishments.
