Quitting smoking makes a difference even after being diagnosed with lung cancer.
The scientific article “Impact of Quitting Smoking at Diagnosis on Overall Survival in Lung Cancer Patients: A Comprehensive Meta-Analysis” presents a review of several studies with the objective of evaluating the survival benefit associated with smoking cessation at diagnosis.

25 studies were analyzed, involving 17,584 patients, and it was found that patients who stopped smoking at diagnosis had a 26% lower risk of death compared to those who continued to smoke. The survival benefit was observed in both non-small cell lung carcinoma and small cell lung carcinoma, and was particularly pronounced in the early stages of the disease.

These findings highlight the role of integrating structured smoking cessation programs in lung cancer management and can guide future clinical practice and health policy development.
